Huawei to Undertake China Unicom's Tianjin CDMA Network Upgrade

China-based telecom equipment supplier Huawei announced on February 25 in Beijing that it has signed a network upgrade contract with Chinese telecom operator China Unicom. Pursuant to the contract, Huawei will support the relocation project of China Unicom's Tianjin subsidiary and help the telecom upgrade its CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) network in the city, according to a report by Chinese-language People's Daily Online.
Under the contract, the scale of the network deployment is projected to exceed 1600 carrier frequencies. In order to meet China Unicom's demand in Tianjin, Huawei will provide an all-IP solution complete with new-generation CDMA base stations and PARC (Platform of Advanced Radio Controller) base station controllers. Also, Huawei will deploy its proprietary HTC (Huawei Transition Carrier) hard handoff technology for China Uncom's network upgrade project.
